Dutch chip manufacturing equipment manufacturer ASML is partnering with Samsung Electronics to invest 1 trillion South Korean won ($760 million) to build a plant to develop advanced semiconductor technologies in South Korea. This announcement was made during a four-day visit by South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yol to the Netherlands, with the purpose of creating a 'semiconductor alliance' between the two countries. ASML is the world's only manufacturer of the ultraviolet lithography printing machines needed to make cutting-edge chips. Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of dynamic random access memory chips used in consumer devices. South Korean chipmakers rely on ASML machines to produce faster and more efficient chips than competitors. Yoon visited ASML's headquarters and toured the production site for next-generation electric vehicles, emphasizing the need to create a well-organized institutional framework for global semiconductor supply chains.
