Researchers from Adobe and the Australian National University have developed an algorithm that converts 2D images into 3D models in just 5 seconds. The breakthrough, named the Large Reconstruction Model (LRM), shows promise for revolutionizing content creation in design and entertainment. The LRM algorithm, with 500 million parameters and a transformer architecture, can effectively work with various image types, including real-world photos and visual collages. Lead author Yicong Hong highlighted LRM's ability to reproduce detailed geometry and complex textures, making it a significant breakthrough in 3D reconstruction.
